Summer Series parkrun – End of June 2017 report

Elspeth writes… Over halfway in the Summer Series parkrun competition and we are starting to gain momentum with more people qualifying this month. We now have a total of 68 members who have now joined the competition with 47 runners completing either one of two courses from the following: Congleton, Bramhall, Wythenshawe, Wilmslow, Burnage, South Manchester, Stretford and Lyme Park.

This month we have 5 people who have completed three courses. Andy Whittingham, Rob Wilson and Alan Turner still need Lyme Park to qualify and this month they are also joined by Sharon Johnstone. Roy Pownall has already tackled Lyme Park along with Wythenshawe and Wilmslow so just needs to pick one of the other courses for qualification.

We also have another four members who have run four courses but they have not yet completed the compulsory course at Lyme Park, so Jarrod Homer, Sharon Jones, Andrew Given and Richard Hirons still need to head to Lyme Park for qualification.

Trevor Morris and Jan Wyles have not increased their course count this month, 7 and 5 respectively, both preferring to revisit Wilmslow instead this month, and wedding plans have meant that Catherine Mellor remains on five courses. All three now need to run at Lyme Park for their summer series points.

We have four qualifiers this month, Patrick Grannan, John Porteous, Chris Cannon and Carolyn Hirons have all completed Lyme Park plus another three courses to join the ‘elite’ group of nine current qualifiers. This month Mark Crossland has joined Tony as the only two to have completed all 8 courses in the competition. Patrick is only one away so needs to complete Streford to gain a full house. At the end of June, the parkrun table is as follows:

Tony Hulme: 8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 2m 51s

Mark Crossland : 8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 6m 44s

Patrick Grannan: 7 Courses : Total Time 2hr 47m 56s

Ian Ashcroft: 6 Courses : Total Time 2hrs 39m 28s

John Porteous 5 Courses : Total Time 2hrs 0m 8s

Chris Cannon 5 Courses : Total Time 2hrs 4m 32s

Matt Taylor : 4 Courses : Total Time 1 hr 20m 52s

Nicky Mowat: 4 Courses : Total Time 1 hr 36m 30s

Carolyn Hirons 4 Courses : Total Time 1hr 53m 9s

Congratulations this month go to Christan Hook on reaching his 100th parkrun in tandem with becoming a dad for the first time. Only time will tell whether those sleepless nights will now have an effect on his enthusiasm for Saturday morning parkruns! Other notable parkruns include Pete Stock who ran a course PB at Wilmslow on 24th June and Tony Hulme who ran a course PB at Burnage on 3rd June, both men showing that age is no barrier to improvement!

Happy July parkrunning!

Elspeth
