Warrington 10K – 29th June 2017.
This was the race three years ago where Paul Garnett first experienced the heart problem which set him back for such long time. This was the first time he had returned, whereas Paul Norris and I run it annually. We were joined by Carolyn and Sue both trying to get back to fitness after injuries (and too many holidays). They agreed that should they pass me in the race then I was having a bad one. Very happy with the pace I was going at around 1K, I was alarmed when Sue came past travelling quickly. I caught her at 7K when she throttled back to bring Carolyn in, and the pair came in together.
The race is very poor on veteran prizes. V35 and 45 for Ladies and 40 and 50 for men. Whilst I really do wish I was of an age where I was competing as a V50, it is not a big inducement to we old farts to turn up when the records have you down as a V50 – which was past some decades back – and you have no record of how you have fared in your actual Vet category.
