Farndon 10K, Sunday 18 October 9.30 Start .
Now then, I was mithered by Gail to join her at this race, her last exercise before she heads off to Beachy Head, not to jump but to run a marathon with 3500’ of ascent.
We left Wilmslow with ideal conditions for running at 7.45, and 45 mins later we arrived at Farndon village hall, were directed to the car park, picked up our chip timers and numbers, bumped into Tony and got ready for the race.
The 9.30 start was approx. half a mile from race HQ, we jogged down, passing 100’s of runners walking, couldn’t understand why they weren’t using this as an ideal warm up, but each to their own. Gail was telling me that she was using this as her last training prior to the Beachy Head marathon with 3500’ of ascent. We discussed running round together but as I have been a little off form and had heard enough about the Beachy Head marathon with 3500’ of ascent I suggested she left me behind and ran it at a comfortable pace for herself.
The race was along closed leafy Cheshire lanes through lovely countryside passing numerous fabulous looking houses and an old water mill. It was excellently marshalled with a bottled water station at the 5k point. The course was a pan and handle shape, the 2k outward handle ever so slightly uphill, with the return handle obviously slightly downhill. The 6k in the middle undulating, similar to Whitley 10k. All in all a great run as I certainly wasn’t in race mode.
