Summer Series parkrun – End of February 2017 Report

Elspeth writes... The current parkrun competition has now been running for 4 weeks. During this time participation in any of the following eight parkruns has been counted: – Congleton, Bramhall, Wythenshawe, Wilmslow, Burnage, South Manchester, Stretford and Lyme Park

To gain entry onto the Main Summer Series tables for the parkrun competition, runners must complete Lyme Park parkrun plus 3 other courses from the list.

February saw a keen start to the competition with a total of 39 members running at least one course. In total 7 people have now completed at least two courses and we have our FIRST qualifier -Tony Hulme, running at Lyme Park, Congleton, Wilmslow and Wythenshawe. His combined running time is 1 hr 34m 39s for 4 runs. Well done Tony, leading by example as always!

Once you have qualified (Lyme Park plus 3 other courses) your times will be added up, the more courses you complete (up to the maximum 8 courses) the further up the scoring table you go. The scoring is then dependent upon the total running time for each of the courses you have completed, taking your fastest time at each course.

February has been a good indicator of the popularity of parkrun within WRC, even the two clashes with Cross Country on 11th and 24th has not caused any significant drop in numbers. The first Saturday of February gave us a bright sunny but cold start to the competition with a coach load of WRC runners at Burnage and Barry Archbold came in as first finisher. WRC excelled with other firsts that day with a further three 1st finishers at Wythenshawe, Stretford and Lyme Park and a first lady at Wilmslow for Louisa Harrison.

Other notable parkruns occurred at Wilmslow on 11th Feb, WRC runners taking both 1st and 2nd places with Matthew Braybrooke 1st and Trevor Morris 2nd, together with Sharon Johnstone taking 1st Lady as fourth finisher. Not that far behind was Mike Hill, with 4 runs at Wilmslow in February, he celebrated his 100th parkrun this month – Congratulations Mike.

Happy March Parkrunning!
