Cloud 9 is a great race to start our summer series with, it has everything – road, trail, cross country, hill climbs, downhill, steep in some parts, mud and plenty of it and this year actually open water. Jon Bale may not agree. Jon had serious accident around the summit of Bosley Cloud, breaking his fibula. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Jon.

Congleton greeted us with a temperature just above freezing and sleet. As I sat in the car, fearing to leave the warmth, I toyed with the idea of heading home but was spotted by Craig. We made our way to the gym, to meet up with the rest of runners where the main topic of conversation was, what to wear? Emergency clothing had to be carried, some decided to wear it from the start, I put my hat on.

Reporting on the actual race is difficult, as yet I don’t know who has taken the group points as the groups as yet haven’t been ratified. Come on Don boy, get your finger out.

John passed me with about a mile left, I saw Sally about 200 yards ahead of me, that’s about the sum total of any overtaking action I encountered. Looking at the results,  great runs for Brian, 100 points and Louisa our first lady finisher and age category winner. Ian managed to fight off James, Gareth stayed clear of the sprint finishes, Ricky  won a close tussle between Paul G, Craig and Di B with only 6 seconds separating them. Must have been a great finish between Sally and Gail only a second separating them. Andy Watts was our other age category winner and Catherine did very well in her inaugural run, there are some easier races Catherine.
