Winter Enthusiasts League Update

Winter Enthusiasts League Update

04/01/16

There were four races over the New Year weekend. Bowstones, details posted by Ian earlier, a good WRC turn out, Andrew Whittingham taking the 100 points but current table leader Tony was missing.

On New Year’s Day we had 10 runners at Lyme park… Stuart Parrott with dog Pogo winning in 19.19 taking the 100 points, followed by Graham in 22.12, Sharon Johnstone 22.30 and 2nd Lady, Ian Smallwood 23.23. Ian and Sharon then proceeded to run to Marple for the second race of the day.

Huma followed Ian in (Huma is the Unknown runner in 62nd place), Janine in 26.24, I actually passed Janine on the downhill section but couldn’t hold her off uphill. Chris next 27.19 one second ahead of Tony, Sharon was taken aback by this Fell race type parkrun but managed to get home in under 30.00 mins just, 29.42.

Apologies to Martin, for not seeing him finish, who managed 40.44.

Huma and Janine didn’t fancy the double parkrun but 130 runners did. It was like Whacky Races getting out of Lyme Park,  a good 5 mile drive between the two, I did have my doubts whether or not Sharon and Ian would make it for the start.

Marple was a quagmire, or so I thought, Sharon Johnstone took the 100 points finishing 2nd lady, Graham finished just behind to take his second 99 points of the day. Ian managed to skate round, definitely the wrong footwear, the only one of our team to post a slower time at Marple. Tony finished ahead of Chris followed by Sharon improving on her Lyme park time.

Ian then ran back to the Boars Head at Higher Poynton, nearly a total of 20 miles.

Graham with time to kill over the weekend has produced a table below with full details.

Hit The Trail

Sunday 3rd Jan.

Now if I thought Marple was a quagmire, Hit the Trail definitely was, mud, mud, glorious mud and 30 metres of thigh  high water just for good measure. A well organised race, we did manage to get the best of the days weather.

Dr Mat took the 100 points followed in by Tim and Tony. Bernard finished within a second of his brother, followed by Chris, just in front of Gail then Carolyn and Jan.

It was a testing course that got the better of Craig who had to drop out due to injury. Three or four tough climbs made harder due to the mud, tough and slippery down hills, Bernard managed to stay upright as opposed to Bowstones where he had a couple of heavy falls. Jan with balance issues had to go very wide on some of the corners and Gail and Carolyn just managed to keep their heads above the water.

Next in the enthusiast series is on the 23rd Jan Twin Piers Colwyn bay.

Chris
