This was an exciting trail race in the Coed y Brenin forest park, an area that is better known as mountain bike territory. The terrain was reminiscent of Macc Forest but relentlessly undulating with a few long climbs and hairy descents through the trees thrown in for good measure.
There was a decent field at the top end as it was the Welsh international team trials but I had a good battle with the also-rans, picked up the V50 prize and did my best to wear out a group of South Cheshire Harriers who were aiming to double with Sport In The Port.
The 2 hour drive to get there broke my race time / travel time ratio but it was a good day out and indeed it would have been easy to spend more than 2 hours on the run. If you like the look of this race beware that it sells out months in advance.
