Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships

County championships are qualified by the residency or birth place of the individual athlete rather than club location.  Quite a few WRC runners are postcoded in Great Manchester.  This excludes us from competing in the Cheshire's so we put in a GM team and headed off to do battle with the mighty squads of Sale, Salford, Horwich, Trafford, Bolton …

Just one junction up from Birchwood the GM championships were taking place at Leigh Sports Village over very different terrain.  Long sections of the route ran along flat, stony paths and indeed I heard people saying that the course was practically that used for the road relays at the same venue.  This made for some fast running with only the odd splosh through mud and puddles.  It was a smaller field than MACCL races but there were many of our usual rivals to race against.

Up against strong competition Wilmslow did well to finish 12th team and we are now firmly established on the GM map.  Well run team!
