Is it normal to record the gun time rather than the chip time? Some of us further into the pack did not move for a few seconds until the front runners moved.
damnation! my chip time is the same as my gun time – which is crazy because it was at least 10 seconds from the gun to when I crossed the start. So I reckon my chip did not register on the start pad but only on the finish pad – hence my chip time is the same as my gun time. Point is- the difference would put me under 50 minutes (as did my watch), which avoids a PW ! Rod
There are a few Wilmslow runners in the same boat where chip and gun time correspond. There was a gap in the mats at the start line. One to watch in future races.
The results were a bit fiddly to copy. I also noticed that the chip time “discount” obviously hadn’t worked for many WRC runners. So I thought it was fairer just to use gun time which also preserves the finishing order. For races in general only gun times make sense otherwise you might sprint past someone, cross the line first and then discover you’d lost on chip time. You can perhaps use your chip time for your own PB as it is the time you took to cover the distance. As far as Summer Series results go I’ll leave it to those that know the rules.
Took me 12 seconds to pass the start mat then Rod, if that,s the difference between gun and chip times ?
thanks for the extra evidence and moral support guys – it is now going in my own book as 49.50 !!
Diane missed out on the club ladies 10K record by only 1 sec !! Only a matter of time ….
