Route Description
From the Rugby Club turn left down to the Carrs, turn right and follow the path through the Carrs to the children’s playground. Turn right on the road, then left to the roundabout, cross the road and run under the railway viaduct to a footpath on the left. Follow the footpath to Wilmslow Park, cross the road and follow the path alongside the Bollin. At the first road cross the road and the river and continue alongside the Bollin, with the river now on your right. Cross several stiles/gates, pass in front of a farm house and turn right over a stile to cross diagonally across a field to the bridge over Mill Lane.
At Mill Lane turn right along the road, which has a sharp left and a sharp right turn (care neeed!). After 300m the road swings right, take the ‘ladder’ stile on the left and cross the field keeping right. (An option here is to keep to the road, and then turn right and first left to regain the route – this avoids some rough ground). After the field take the stile through the stone wall, turn right on the A538 (care needed) and cross the road immediately to take a footpath on the left. Cross the fields, crossing a stile, and keeping to the path, to gain Wilmslow Old Road in Mottram. Turn left and at the tee-junction in Mottram turn right.
On the road you pick up a footpath on the right, which then switches to the left. Take the next turning on the right, go through a gap into Duke Street (cobbled), and then straight on along Heyes Lane, taking the first left into Oakfield Road. Follow Oakfield Road round to the right, and go through the playground onto the open ground beyond. Follow the path, keeping left to pass under the railway and continue to meet the main A34 by-pass at the Alderley Road roundabout.
Cross the dual carriageway at the pedestrian lights, and continue straight ahead towards Wilmslow. Take the first left (Fulshaw Park South), at the end turn right then immediately right again onto Knutsford Road. Take the road immediately on the left (South Oak Lane), and then continue ahead onto Oak Lane. At the end of Oak Lane go straight ahead through the gate onto the Common, and take the footpath straight ahead until it meets Racecourse Road near to the Boddington Arms. Cut through the track, cross the main Altrincham Road and return to the Rugby Club via King’s Road.
