Robert Moffatt Memorial, High Legh, 10K

High Legh 10k April 11

This race near Tatton Park regularly tops surveys for being one of the very best 10ks in the country (and as such reaches its course limit very quickly) and it is easy to see why.

For instance I've never seen such posh loos courtesy of 'Classic Conveniences'! The organisation (and village atmosphere) is indeed hard to beat and the course largely flat and rural but for a couple of rather nasty motorway bridge climbs towards the end just when you don't want them.

The race should have taken place in February but was called off because of snow that day. Rob couldn't make the rearranged date so gave me his number (legally!) on the premise that I repeat his victory from a year ago. Sadly my legs didn't seem to want to move after sharing the lead for the first 5k so I had to settle for second.

Four others joined me for what has to be a possible summer series opening contender for next year (although we would all have to get our entries in early!) and a particular well done to Matt for a PB.

1 Mike Proudlove (City of Stoke) 33.52
2 Jim Pendrill 34.42
5 James Wheeler 37.49
28 Matt Atkinson 43.55 PB
56 Simon Fenton 48.00
68 Soraya Mason 49.00

  1. It was very generous of Jim to back off in the second 5k otherwise he might have pushed the winner to beat my course record – which survives by just 2 seconds. As Jim says it is a very nice event but entries do close months before.
