Summer Series, Race 4 -Shady Oak

So how was it this year? Not seen any reports so far on the web site and Charlotte will want something for the newsletter, please. I’ve not run since the famous 2006 race when the rain was lashing the pub windows, the wind rattling the roof slates and most of did our warm-up in the lounge bar. Last year was said to be a perfect day but, whatever the weather, the hill is enough for me to book a holiday as soon as the date is announced.

After a spluttering start, the Summer Series burst into action, 34 runners. The Wilmslow podium with Malcolm and Stuart took-on a more familiar look. James in third place also looks a potential challenger. By this time last year Damian was already starting to dominate but, with only one race so far, he sits in 33rd. place just behind Stuart and Kasey. At this stage the system rewards enthusiasm and commitment; Tony, Don, Kate and Trevor take the top four places in the overall table.

Returning marathoners Vicky and Sarah were first and third Ladies sandwiching Kate who now has 3 firsts and a second and will take some catching. Just below Kate, overall, it is very tight between Angela, Cat, Amanda and Penny. Nicky leads those who have run two races.

Rob took his third Group 3/4 win followed by Tony and Mick. Tony leads the overall table with one first, three seconds and is followed by Don and Kate. Steve is second to Rob of those who have run three races whilst Mick leads those who have run two.

Angela, robbed by less than 1m in 15,000m at Waterloo, took her first Group 5/6 50 points, Catriona scored her best finish with 49 and last year’s Shady Oak winner Penny was third. But you have to watch the tortoise as well as the hares, Trevor tops the overall table deposing Ian with Angela third. Behind them, ready to pounce, is a familiar line-up of Cat, Amanda, John, Penny and Julie.
