Running and our attitudes

Read this quote recently and thought about the realities of it !

Roger Bannister

"Very often athletes or other really driven young people don't take that
opportunity to enjoy the broader perspective."

Sir Roger Gilbert Bannister (23rd March 1929) is a British former athlete
best known as the first man to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. Bannister
became a distinguished neurologist and master of Pembroke College, Oxford,
before retiring in 2001.

We sometimes need to remember that : as much as we strive for success we must not allow it to take over our lives .
After my six month hernia layoff these last twelve months have been a quest to returm to finess and lose the pounds gained : then Friday I pulled something just as I felt that I could see the green shoots of recovery !

When we take stock and reflect , its not the end of the world , just a temporary set back on the road to recovery !
As much as it may surprise some chatting to Tony after training , he would endorse the remarks proving that he is not the Bill Shankly of running after all !

Nick.
