City of Salford Women’s 5 mile Kate Sutton

I’ve run this event a few times and Wilmslow have won the team prize the last couple of years. Today however there was only Amanda and myself – p’haps as it’s sandwiched betweeen X country matches??

The course is actually 5.25miles and the that last .25 is very much uphill. Not the most scenic of routes but a well-organised race by Swinton Harriers. A quick start down the finish hill and the first 5 were clear quickly.

Along the East Lancs Rd there was a steady head wind which eased as we turned into Moston. I could here a few chasing me – one woman grunting every breath.A Swinton runner came past – cheered on by the men from her club who were marshalling and then the grunter. Decided to stick with her  as 2 more came by and then got past up the rise to the East Lancs again. Back into the headwind through the underpass and up the hill catching a girl – well she was a L35…

Amanda came in strongly shortly after with a strong sprint finish and her usual smile.

  1. As Kate said a well organised event, really enjoyed it yesterday and managed to get a PB, so as you can imagine – that smile stayed on my face all day!
Well done Kate who also got a PB – I’ve got some catching up to do before I get to a finishing time like that!
