After an early start from Middlewich the 'End-to-End team' called in at the Mary Brotherton Centre in Wigan, and were royally entertained, including a massage to ease the aching muscles. They then set off North, skirting Preston as quickly as possible, but soon getting onto more cycling-friendly roads.
Today was very different from the last few days in terms of weather, being cold and windy with predominantly a head-wind. This didn't seem to hold up progress, as the team decided to cross Shap Fell before looking for accommodation. Shap is similar in challenge to the Cat and Fiddle, about 9 miles of rideable but unremitting climb, followed by a similar descent.
The first B&B, in Penrith, showed a cycle-sign in the window, and the team needed no more temptation to call a halt for the day. The day's ride was 120 miles and keeps them ahead of their plan. Tomorrow will take them to Gretna Green and into Scotland!
I am sitting here in the warmth of sunny Florida reading about Malcolm and Pauls exploits and a little of me is envious. Well done to all three of them a great job for good causes. Due to a tendon injury I am also riding a bike but NO HILLS
