Great Manchester Run

10 May 2015

There was a good showing from WRC at this monster of a race.  It's good fun if you throw yourself into the party atmosphere.  The course was tough yesterday with a strong headwind and although fairly flat the main road surface is often hard – which makes the times of the winners and the amazing V40 world record by Bernard Lagat all the more impressive.

Jon, Damian and I were employed as pacemakers.  Perhaps surprisingly Damian was revealed as the king of even pace.

1 Stephen Sambu (Kenya) 27:30
63 Rob Downs 35:10 (35 min pacer)
89 andrew whittingham 36:08
188 Mike Hill 38:08
212 Graham Screawn 38:25
299 mark bale 39:25
338 Katy Green 39:41
347 Jonathan Cheshire 39:44 (40 min pacer)
381 Damian Nichols 39:56 (40 min pacer)
449 PAUL NORRIS 40:32
493 Matthew Taylor 40:52
810 Diane Bygrave 42:48
4076 Chris Cannon 49:32
4335 Lindsay Gallogly 49:56

Many thousands ran … and even more walked.

  1. A lot of fun. A big thank you to Jonathan who was a 40 minute pacer. Due to the throng of people around him at 5km I decided to give him 5 metres. Although I had more space to run, 5 metres soon became 10 metres, then 20 metres etc. I found the course harder than I expected. Can’t be too disappointed though as I beat my course record from 2011 (55:50) by 14 minutes 58 seconds!
