Wilmslow Runners Parkrun results 4th February 2023

A big turnout by Wilmslow Club Members at Saturday’s Parkruns. 31 were out running at 9 events.

Half a dozen at Wilmslow. Ashely first club member home. Fastest time since his PB last April. Rebecca, back after touring for a month, second lady to finish; Frankie 3^rd lady.  Dave had a fast time. GrahamC fastest time this year; Hannah – a 24-secondprovement on May last year PB

Soloists: Jim had another quick run at Didsbury. JD was back at his local parkrun after his NY marathon last October. A year’s absence brought Paul a 1-minute PB at the AP fast-track circuit.

Myself? After returning to Parkruns last week after an 8-week absence and training on Tuesday after al a 4-year absence; I dithered between Burnage, Congleton and Didsbury. Breakfast decided it. I don’t think Congleton do hot butties; Didsbury is a little expensive – so Burnage it was. Car park seemed to be very busy. The warm up in the car park was quite a plod. Perhaps that cold, running nose and sore throat I seemed to have Wednesday morning after training wasn’t quite over! The car park was very busy. And a lot of people at the start. 100+ more than November when I ran it last year. Started just over halfway back with the other runners. It was not safe nor enough space to do anything other at the start than to keep up with the running snake that made its way to the woods. I calculated there were about 130 people ahead of me once we had done the initial U-loop. Once back onto the river path I sped up and had a net gain of 12 by the time the car park and woods arrived. Unfortunately my survival at all costs approach in the woods left me +1 only by the time the steps came. Riverside path again and +12 again by the Finish funnel as only 1finishing runner overtook me. [4 did last November] A glance at the watch – my Pace looks like sub-32! Achey too. Think I am not over the cold!! Second time to car park and now my position has fallen back to +5. No gain in the woods. On exit gain now down to +1.  Glance at Watch. Looks like sub 5 for last 1 k to do target. Impossible – but still can push a little. Overtake a few. Then a few more. Can’t catch the last lady I am chasing!! Once recovered from that little rep!! See Watch sub-30!!  Had misread the finish [only 720m]. Not bad – even better if I subtract the 18 seconds to walk over the start line. Official time a bummer though. My place – behind the lady in front of me – is now taken by a person called Dave!! Damn the token sorters giver-outers!! 29:30 my time!!. But bacon butty appreciated 😊 Though A bit overcooked. Should’ve had sausage!!

Now back to reality. Alderley Park had the biggest Wilmslow turnout. A dozen club runners.   Nic 5^th home and first lady to finish. PB’s for RichardH and SueS. There were a ‘bunch’ of first timers: Andy, Colin, TracyB and NicB. Tracy came  first on AG. Also ran: Mike, Graham, RichardL , SueH and Steve all with fast times
