A really busy Saturday. Thirty-six club runners ran at 11 parkrun events.
At Bramhall Paul – was taking it easy or managing a niggle? As he escorted Janine around . Mr&Mrs S were trying out the different surfaces at a park up in Hyde.
Singletons included: JD was back at the palace with fastest park this year. Rebecca, second lady finisher with her fastest Didsbury time since 2019.
How Green was their valley. You’d better ask Gareth and Victoria who first timed at an out-and-back Greenfield Valley.
Shaking a leg and not a spear, or was it Play time? we had the H’s and C’s down in the Bard’s town. It was the H’s first time. Richard first Club runner to finish, Graham next just pipping Sue with her fastest run this year and then Janet with a PB and top AG [87.38%]. All very good times.
A chunk of runners took to Alderley . Ex-member Matt was first home. Mike was our first current club member home. Markus pipped James. PaulG was next club runner home. Tom had a PB. Jan first-timed with her fastest run since April last year.
Down the road at Wilmslow, 5 [sorry 6 – added Ella!] club runners took part. Lewis pipped Ashley to finish as first club runner. Steve and Andy were next. Hannah just missed out on a PB.
While nine runners turned up at the Race Track at Alexandra Park. Or was it 11?
Speedster Tracy sub-17. Unfortunately a lap too short! and Don DNF? Or was he cheer leader?. Billy and Colin first timed. Billy our first runner home. Tim and Nicky with great AG’s. But Nicky pipped by a very young Girl for top AG. She pipped Billy!
That just leaves my sub-30 challenge at Congleton. Mr Whizz was also there. He passed by me quickly in the car park as I stretched before the Start; and at the end. Whilst I was changing he quickly drove off. Must have known about the temporary traffic lights they’d put up whilst we ran!!
Three laps. Ten minutes a lap. A push at the end. Plan done. Just over 31 minutes last time out here. Thought it should be fine. The narrow path at the start created a running snake. Not very confident overtaking on the grass or the sides of the path. Used the boating club area to commence my move forward. Lap one completed. “Ten-Oh-six” the timer called. OK. That will do. Second lap. Feeling leggy. Overtaken by lady runner, her partner, and her dog! Looks very much like an Altrincham/Congleton lady runner that used to chat with our lady runners 10 years ago. Latch onto their pace. Second lap. 20-38. Need to pick up the p pace. Mouth dry. Break into jelly beans that were being saved for the final 1k.
Brain agrees with legs. Go slower! Dog 80 metres ahead. Saving myself for the final burst uphill to finish. Eye up 5 in front of me. Push. Go past two. Tank empty. No more acceleration. Two families and their children go past me. Push the last 50m so no one else goes by. Must have made the low end of 29 minutes. Back to car for some water. Not quite show how the watch shows sub-28! But I am knackered and will probably regret it in the coming days. Mission accomplished. Fastest parkrun since May 2019!. Now Cheadle, Wythenshawe, Stockport and Lyme Park await.
I seem to have missed Lyme Park! No PB this week for Richard. Kathryn first-timed! I wonder how she liked the hills! 🙂

Another fine run by the ever improving Patrick, well done!
Some notable age graded runs. Good to see Jan returning to form with a great run at Alderley. I went to Wilmslow and ran half the course testing my hamstring which seemed to be ok. However as the 30 minute pacer was about 30 seconds in front I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and didn’t push it.
Glad to see you are on the mend. With the aches still being felt today – perhaps I should not have tried to track the lady and her dog! Don’t think that time will get better for a while now. Happy with under 30. Especially as the next 3 on my list are tougher.
At our tender age anything under 30 is a result Patrick, but if you got near 30 at Lyme Park I would be well impressed!
After all your trials and tribulations it is great to see you back and improving week on week. Keep it up!
Thanks for keeping us up to date with all the news Patrick.
