A nice evening for our runners who took on this challenge. If only it wasn’t so warm and hilly!!
This Run North West race is a 1-lap course within the National Trust grounds of Lyme Park and consists of approximately 10K of running, with 272 metres of elevation gain. A tougher longer trail race than their other events with some great elevation and a fully marked and marshalled course. No navigation required!
The course started outside the impressive entrance to the main hall. It was a tough undulating 10K with a mixture of grass, trail and road running. Runners could enjoy the sights of Lyme Park and look out for the deer and cattle along the way!
The first mile consisted of a mainly downhill section followed by a short sharp climb past the infamous Cage with amazing views over Manchester. Then another one mile flatter section led to the second climb to the race summit and then into the woods past The Lantern building. The second half of the course involved more gentle undulations and downhill sections before descending to the finish at the Timber Yard (only a 100m from the start).
Well we had 8 club members who chose to run it.
Barry was our first runner home – those fell racing legs and jazz hands helped him to very good 6th. Claire did great too – she was second lady to finish.
Then we had Evan, Mark_K and Dave finish under the hour. As did Mark_B – nice to see him back racing. Just past the hour came Colin and a bit behind – presumably because she stopped for the exclusive knee mud pack offer, was our Jules!
Good category placings too! Well done everyone.

I was up in Lyme Park supporting on what was a glorious evening. Barry ran very well as did Claire, narrowly missing out on 1st Lady overall. The lady who beat her is a Welsh international and younger, so she did well to be less than a minute behind her. The evergreen Steve Vernon set the course record, making it look all too easy. He is after all a former National Cross Country champion!
