We had a few club runners hitting the roads in and around Manchester.
The Therme event is the second-largest marathon event in the UK and the fourth largest in Europe overall. It also be hosted the England Commonwealth Games Qualifiers and saw some of the country’s best athletes tackle the famous 26.2-mile course through Greater Manchester to compete for a spot on the England team for Birmingham 2022.
The course has changed since I last run – and hated it. In 2021 there was a much-welcomed introduction of a new section of the route, taking in city landmarks including the Manchester Opera House, Spinningfields, Albert Memorial Hall and The Midland Hotel. The city centre section then was slightly reduced for 2022 due to extensive roadworks taking place.
No more boring, despairing trudging around Urmston!
It was Deja Vu at the Finish. WRF half Marathon runners Jonny Mellor and Ross Millington repeated their 1-2 finish. Our Festival winning lady Anna Bracegirdle was 6th lady finisher.
Jonny broke the course record. The ladies winner Becky Briggs knocked 5 minutes of her PB.
Richard knocked 3 minutes of his PB. Ivan 17 minutes! James more than 20 minutes. Lydia – her first!!
