Newsround w/c 1st February 2022

I’m a bit behind in publishing  this article!  But hey-ho!

Here is a brief News Round up of the things that are going, or may be going on, at the Club.

Iten Training camp.

For those that may have missed Nick’s note. I reproduce it.

A number of people have enquired about Nick’s next visit to Iten…to train for a week in the rift valleys of Kenya and surround yourself with the greats of running. I [Nick] am booked to go out again on April 22nd & return 3rd May…the hosted camp is for just seven days. Please ask if you want to find out more, before I go out to the wider public. i.e…We could have our own WRC trip!

Training at Macclesfield Running Club one Monday.

You may have seen Nick’s earlier eMail sounding out anyone one who would like a Track training session. He is awaiting to hear back from the Centre and will update you asap.

If you missed the earlier email. Let Nick know if you would like to be included.

Cross Country

The last match is at Heaton park on the 19th February.  Let’s get a lot of our members running. More information to follow.

WRF Festival

There is a lot of activity and help required in this particular area. You should all remember that his is our race, and the only that helps support the funding of our club thereby keeping our membership fees low.  Every entry counts! So please help whenever and wherever you can. And if possible, spread the word at your work or groups/clubs you may be in. The link to WRF Challenges is here.

Look out for more information.

Free Food and Drink – Bring your thoughts and ideas or come and meet club members!

It’s not quite an all you can eat buffet but we want to see you all 🙂

Now that most Covid restrictions have been lifted, we’ll start our post-training meal nights again this month.  We thought it might be useful for some of them to have a topic for informal discussion.

The first will be on Tuesday 15th February, and on this occasion the meal will be paid for by the club, as long as you let Julie know in advance that you’ll be attending (see below).  We’d like to use this one for an informal discussion around each table about what members feel is working well and what needs to be developed in the club’s activities.  If you’re new to the club, this would also be a great opportunity to get to know more people and to give your perspective too.

Amongst the sorts of things that could be discussed:

  • Activities necessarily became more fragmented during the various lockdowns.  Are we coming back together as a club more now?
  • We haven’t yet got back to the habit of meeting in the bar after training on Tuesday.  Do people want to do this again now?
  •  The WhatsApp groups are quite active.  Are they providing you with enough information to feel involved?
  • It looks like people are beginning to sign up for the WRC Series races.  How do you feel about taking part this year?
  • Participation in XC events this year has been very low.  Are there any other reasons for this apart from injury?
  • Thursday evening runs also attract very low numbers.  What are the reasons for this and should we be providing something different?
  • Response to the request to provide assistance at the Wilmslow Running Festival is again slow, despite the fact that it is an expectation of the club through our service level agreement and gives us significant funding (without this our membership fees would be double).  Are there any particular reasons?
  • Was the low take-up for the Christmas party just a caution over Covid or were there other reasons? (Numbers have been declining over a number of years).
  • Are there any other activities we should be providing as a club, within our resources and ethos?

From the Wilmslow RC website: “Our ethos is simple: The club aims to offer a supportive and friendly environment for all runners keen to improve their performance in road races, cross country and any other events that the club enters at local, regional and national levels. The emphasis is on healthy competition, and our calendar includes a host of team races. We encourage club members to represent the club in a variety of local and national races – from 5k to half marathons. We run Road, Trail, Fell and Cross Country!”

It would be great if you could come along and have your say. Carol will be serving Lasagne with garlic bread.  If you plan to be there, please let Julie Lucas know by no later than Saturday  12th February, on julie@julielucas.co.uk or 07971 870429.  If you prefer vegetarian or vegan options, let Julie know.

Future topics for meal nights:

  • March – presentation evening
  • April – update on the trail

Hope to see you there.

Paul and the committee
