Surrounding Tiers bring tears: Wilmslow Festive 10k Cancelled

I thought I’d share an update from Andrew about the Festive 10k being cancelled this year.

It’s with a very heavy heart that we have to announce this year’s Wilmslow Festive 10K is postponed to November 2021.

After a number of discussions with our authorities it has been agreed that very sadly, we will be unable to host this years event.

Our town centre location brings an amazing atmosphere on race day but also has a more heightened concern around COVID-19 risk than remotely located events.

With Greater Manchester moving into tier 3 along with Liverpool and Lancashire in order to battle the heightened COVID-19 cases, we are now even more restricted and currently unable to invite runners from these areas to attend. England Athletics who provide the race licence also do not permit travel in our out of a tier 3 area to participate.

We work closely with local councils and appreciate the concerns around hosting a mass participation run in the current environment, respecting concerns of local residents has also been an important part of our conversations.

Whilst our actual events have been approved as COVID secure, it is the mass movement of participants in terms of travel and then pressure on the infrastructure of a small town that mean we are having to make this decision.

We paused entries for the Wilmslow Festive 10K back in September when concerns increased, we would dearly love to be inviting more entries now and looking forward to our most popular of races but do agree that for the safety of everyone, this is the correct decision.

Whilst this will be a huge disappointment, we are very pleased to announce you can still earn this years fantastic festive Gingerbread man medal!

Existing entrants will be automatically moved to the 2021 race although do have lots of alternative options, including moving to the virtual event.

An email has been sent on 21/10/20 to all registered participants to explain the situation, giving lots of options including still getting your hands on our unique medal and moving to a choice of several 2021 Run North West 10Ks. If the email is not in your inbox please check your junk folder, if you haven’t received the email by 22/10/20 (and it isn’t in your junk folder) then email run@runnorthwest.co.uk to re-request the email (please confirm your name and DOB so we can find you in the system).

For more information on our virtual event please take a look HERE.

One thing we can promise is that will be back enjoying running together and Run North West will once again be ready to welcome you just as soon as we can gain the relevant approvals.

Thank you for your support and understanding,

Yours in running, the Run North West team 🌈

* the race date for 2021 is TBC as we are awaiting final permissions and approvals from the Council and other governing bodies who issue our permissions and licences.
