Thanks to John Porteus we have another race to add to our top 100. So come on all you guys, make use of the isolation time and pen me an article to: [email protected]. Over to John:

I think that we are blessed with a number of great races in this area, however, my favourite is the Bollington 3 peaks. I first did the race in a summer series a few years ago but have tried to do it each year since then.
The race is normally on a Saturday afternoon, and starts on the Middlewood way just behind the Bollington Brewery.
A quick sprint at the start, (well it’s all relative in my case), to avoid being trapped on the narrow path before crossing the canal bridge.
The race goes along the canal towards Macclesfield before turning left and heading up, via the quarry, to the Kerridge ridge which is peak number 1.
Over the ridge and down the other side with a nice view of Rainow, and traversing the bottom of the field, before ascending to White Nancy, peak number 2.
A headlong rush downhill and through the streets before attempting peak number 3 which is Nab Hill. At this point your calves and thighs begin to politely enquire whether you have lost your mind.
Following the ascent of the Nab, it is a bit like my future running career – downhill all the way, until the finish at Bollington recreation ground.
A quick walk/jog/warm down across the rec to the brewery where you collect a welcome pint of Bolly’s best and a plate of chilli while the prize winners are announced.
What’s not to like?
John
PS I also agree with Ian that the Bollington Nostalgia is a great race!

Officially the only fell race in the country to start and finish at a brewery, the race sees seasoned fell runners compete alongside relative novices.
Set over 5.7 miles of challenging terrain, runners will face a 1200 ft ascent traversing Kerridge Hill, White Nancy and Nab Hill.
It has been going for 12 years since 2009. Usually around the start of May and costing around £10 to enter. This year’s race was cancelled because of the COVID-19 virus. The proceeds go to local charities such as Buxton Mountain Rescue. Why not give it a try next year
Anyone spot the runners?
