A select few of us went for the alternative Bluebell Trail race and we were not disappointed. In fact, we all loved it. As Chris succinctly described it ‘Styal Woods transferred to Chorley ’, at points I thought Styal Mill might appear round the corner.
The course was well-marshalled and signposted with tape, which was necessary as we wended our way through the woods covered with bluebells. Conditions were very dry but we had a surprise at the end when we crossed a river which was supposed to be up to our ankles but in fact was waist deep, even for six footers. Quite refreshing, although I was slightly worried whether my car key in my pocket would survive.
Top SS points were only 90 as we were Team B after the Halifax Bluebell Trail. Di Mc appeared at the last minute so we knew straight away who would be receiving them. In fact, I think Di was half way home by the time the rest of us finished. How can you run 10k in 42 minutes on that terrain? Well done, Di, not only first lady but 4th overall. Tony was second WRC runner, 1st V65, again a PB as not even he had run this race before. The rest of us all finished looking quite happy, even Don who was pushing it this week by running three races in five days.
Definitely a race to be put in the Summer Series again for all to enjoy.
