100th Wilmslow parkrun report

A group of WRC members joined Wilmslow parkrun on Saturday, supporting their 100th event in The Carrs Park by volunteering as pacers. Rich Hirons ‘recruited’ 12 WRC runners to pace parkrunners of all abilities to finish times ranging between 18 and 35 minutes.
It was a very successful exercise, many parkrunners getting pb’s, and pacers learning to manage pace. Every pacer made a new friend on Saturday, either by simply being a target to aim at, or as a result of the enthusing and encouragement that was offered on the way to the finish. It was fun to witness the efforts everyone put in and the appreciation shown. It was also a great reminder that parkrun isn’t just about smashing your own pb’s, but a community running event that’s made possible by energetic volunteers.

  1. I can only agree, it was a great morning when all egos were left at home! It was one of those times when you remember the pleasure of running rather than constantly chasing PB’s or your fellow club members. The runners that we helped pace were humblingly grateful and very appreciative. It was a great experience that we can hopefully repeat again soon. Well organised Rich 🙂
