Bosley Fete Fell Race

Summer Series, race 11

Saturday June 18th.

This is the one where we are the sideshow to amuse the punters whilst they await the main event, The Rose Queen. Either I’ve got older or the race has got harder in the two years since we last ran it. Carolyn, who is running well said she was two minutes slower. The opening/closing mile to the reservoir was this time on rough, longish grass, Janine points out that last time we had a track and I can’t believe it was as wet two, or any other number, of years ago. The stats. will show whether Carolyn was the exception or the rule.

I’d been hamstrung the previous two races and there was not much joy in my running, so undoubtedly for me the highlight of the afternoon was my first sight of the new figure-hugging ladies’ running vest, I hope it is going to become compulsory.

Andrew finished 2nd., Tom was 7th., not bad for an M60, Mike was 9th., Craig 40th.

Janine was our first lady, not sure how often that has happened in the fells. Huma was second, Ramadan is not easy in June particularly when you are a runner and a mother, not even a drink of water until sunset. Angela was third and took the F50 prize.

Jarrod took his second League 2 victory of the year, his other was Shining Tor which would seem to define his strength. Matt, who has won all the League 2 road races was second, then Tim and Janine.

Tony won League 3. Andy had his best run in a long time. Then Huma, Chris, John, Nicky and Patrick.

Angela, despite her lack of confidence on uneven ground, again won League 4. Clare put-aside her Boar’s Head timidity to take second with Carolyn third. Sharon says her three months on the wagon have not done much for her, certainly has not improved her running, so she is going to concentrate on her drinking, at which she is currently showing greater prowess. And neither Ian nor Simon covered themselves in glory.

Having spent time in the race behind both Trevor and Belinda, I was hopeful at one stage of also overhauling Don but he is experienced downhill and was strong enough on flat run-in. Trevor also led Simon but could not hold him off in the last third. Belinda’s finish brought the biggest cheer of the afternoon.
