Buxton Half Marathon

Sunday May 29th.

Summer Series, race 9

It was a great day weather-wise.  The race is exactly the same as it was when I last did it (2002) – it seems timeless, same course, same number of competitors, manual race timing.  Tony, on his bike, cropped up at around 3 miles, after the major climb.  Wilmslow runners came 2 (Damian), 3 (Rob) and 5 (Andrew), and Vinny also did well so we won the men’s team easily.  In the womens team Janine, Amanda and Claire managed a 1 point victory over Macclesfield, giving Wilmslow a clean sweep of the team prizes.  Janine, Tom and Andy also won vets prizes.  All together, a pretty good day for WRC!

This is plagiarism, Andy Watts’ words not mine, he encouraging me to report a race I hadn’t run, although my finishing time does appear in the results. A hamstring injury at Dunham, Wayne has me back for Boar’s Head, gave me an honourable withdrawal, although I had already been advised by Simon and Roy, who had run it in their youth, that the course was too tough for me.

Not it would seem for others, some excellent performances. Maybe some of you could use the comment section to give us a better picture of the events of the day.

The points bonanza was helped further by Alan, Andy, Gail, Huma, Nina, Sharon, Sue and Tim who were on their way home from their 3 Peaks triumph.

Martyn Clarke is listed as Colchester Harriers, not sure which is correct as I’m new to the club. 🙂
