Manchester Area Cross Country League : Round two : Sherdley Park.

The weather was kind given the forecast and we were lucky that the rain held off…In fact almost a hint of sun in the early afternoon.

Round two of the increasingly popular Manchester Area Cross Country League was staged at Sherdley Park, St Helens. For some the perception is that it's a distance away, the reality is a very easy drive along the M62.

An ideal setting - it's a challenging course and very spectator friendly.

Over the years, we have enjoyed considerable success in the league, but the growth has meant that by both sheer mumbers providing fresh competition but also other clubs become increasingly strong, that capturing medals becomes yet more challenging.

Racing over the country is great training, but also very team focused with the men supporting the ladies as they race and then vica versa, as the mens race follows. It also provides a unique atmosphere of support not seen on the roads, more akin to the Tour de France, loud cheers and the ringing of cow bells!

We saw the strength of Liverpool who flexed their muscles for the first time in winning the team event.

Peter Speake lead the men home in 26th.

Both Malcolm and Stuart continued their rehabilitation, and new member Paul Hawkins made his debut.

The team finished 6th and won the Vets team event.

Boggart Hole Clough follows for race three on Saturday 6th December.

After the final race (five) at Wythenshawe Park, the customary presentation will take place.  We want to be chearing a healthy number of medal winners!

The County Champs take place on 3rd January 2015, and those wanting to be entered should let Team Captains Jim Pendrill and Diane McVey know.

Rob is arranging the Manchester Team for those not eligible for Cheshire.

Cross Country is tremendous fun…You really need to try it !
