Abersoch Triathlon Report

Abersoch Tri

We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the first Abersoch Sprint Triathlon.

A full entry of 130 athletes made a running start into the water for the 750 meter swim off Abersoch Beach. After 300 meters the swimmers returned to the beach to run round a marker before re-entering the water to complete the last 450 meters, something that the competitors relished. Then a quick dash to the bikes for the 20Km, the course took the riders through some stunning scenery, from Abersoch to Llanbedrog and up to Mynytho, then a long stretch through the countryside passing Hell’s Mouth (Porth Neigwl) through Llanengan and Sarn Bach and back to Abersoch.  Then off with the helmets and out for the final 5K run. Through the Abersoch golf course, a loop around Bwlltocyn and back on to the beach to the finish line where supporters, sponsors and organisers cheered in the triathletes. Medals were presented to all who completed the course as well as the much needed water, Mars Bars, bananas and energy drinks.

Although congratulations go to all competitors it was Jeremy Bygrave who took the first place coming in at 1:18:32. Second place went to Dylan Griffiths at 1:18:46 and third to Huw Brassington at 1:19:33.
