Summer Series Race 22 – Langley 7

Saturday, November 2nd.

The temperature was a respectable 10o but the combination of a blustery wind and heavy, squally showers in the warm-up made the prospect of running less inviting. We've run Langley in a lot worse but 10 minutes before the start the sun came out, stayed out, the rain held-off and conditions were pleasant enough, save a head-wind in the first half.

Langley vies with Bollington as the club's favourite race. The blue and gold was there in force to give an end-of-season festive flavour, with an expectation of reward in cake rather Series points for anyone who already had their seven races.

A Damian win adds to the feel good atmosphere and he duly delivered as did Diane, again first lady. Jim was 10th and 1st.M40, Robert 24th.

Only three seconds behind Robert, Sharon was 1st. L40 with  Janine our third and Katy our fourth lady, then Nicky, who was 1st.L55.

Jeremy, 16th. overall, took the Division 2 59-points. Allan, who narrowly lost-out to Mike, the 58 and Sharon 57. Andy got 56 and 1st.M60. Only 7 seconds separated Andy from Mark and Craig. Mick just 13 seconds further back took 1st. M65.

Then, only 8 seconds behind Mick, Janine led a female dominated Division 3 ahead of Louisa with Diane third and then Andy fourth. Nicky vs. Patrick and Zoe vs. Amanda look interesting contests. Further back, I tussled with Clare over the early miles, trailed a resurgent Carolyn but was in front of Gail and had established a lead over Simon, when my hamstring again brought  a premature end to a Series race. I'm on holiday for Conwy, so an extended rest would seem sensible.

Huma's year for the first time has not been plagued by injury and she's in magnificent form. Carolyn, after a wobble, looks to be back in business. Gail is consolidating the enormous gain she's made over the last six months.

48 of us in total, sorry if you didn't get a mention.

Ian
