Joseph Holt Rivington Trail Race : Friday 14th June

Lots of activity these last few days…The Roaches for SS points and Dunham for a PB !

I was always going to struggle to get to The Roaches and opted for a change of scene on the following night. I had watched Dunham…congratulations to all that got PB's. It was great to see you all flying around and knowing the times that you were each chasing, I had a pretty good idea of the PB's about to be had as you hit the finish straight. Hard work does pay off ! 🙂

I ran the Rivington Trail race, part of the Horwich weekend of sport. The weather brightened on arrival but we were hit with torrential rain minutes before the start . Fortunetly not when we ran. This is advertised as a 10k but the course is all off road and two laps. The lap starts with a climb up a rocky/cobbled trail (very similar to the one we used to use in AE)for 2/3rd of a mile to be followed by gentle descents and a flat fast mile to the lap turn.Apart from the final mile, you need to watch your footing as it was uneven throughout…No worries here for me…I was running in the "Mountain Bear" Ground Control, so naturally,I stayed on my feet !

The leaders got off to a flier and I settled into the hill climb on my own. On the flatter stetch, I caught a guy ahead and overtook him, only for him to return the compliment on the second lap hill. I had guessed him to be in my age category, and thought I still had an outside chance of catching him in the last kilometre. I did but it was a testing finish and did not want to look back too much approaching the line.

I spoke with him after …An ex sparring partner of Tony " Paul Boardman" of Horwich and a V50.

Back to the pub for presentations …Prizes for first five men and first five ladies …Nothing for the Vets ! 🙁 …The sprint to the line was pride only!

1st : Chris Farrell : Horwich 35.32

6th: Nick Bishop : 41.02

A good and testing course.

Nick
