Gin Pit 5

Plenty of choice this week end !

With the change in the club summer series , a number stuck with a long fell race , Rob and Trevor M went for the Congleton 1/2M , Gareth the Chester marathon and the others revisited the Gin Pit 5 (last used in the club champs four years ago ).

Only a 35 minute drive but damp mist on arrival . I had not run the race previously but found it to be a decent and friendly trail race . Good course and HQ, with enough twists and turns to offer variety …And three little climbs thrown in . Firm underfoot but with a number of  patches of mud and water (Refer the pix from Rod!). Pre race discussions centered around flats or trail shoes …I went with the former(the only ones with me!).

Lots of sub plots in the race with a number of close finishes . As I watched others finish, the call was heard a number of times " how far ahead am I!!". Andrew Whittingham continued his fine run of form while Diane was second lady home with Peter Watson grabbing the first V70.

The ladies were 2nd team behind Leigh Harriers…Its good to try races away from familiar South Cheshire as its a chance to run against some of the Lancashire and North Manchester clubs that we dont get to race against on a regular basis .

Prize giving over , we left in fine sunshine and feel sure that the course would now look different again swathed in sun rather than the earlier damp mist .

A race I enjoyed …Something in it for all.
