Dunham 5k

14 June 2012

A return to Dunham but with the welcome twist of the route being reversed.  So rather than running three times up the main drag with the wind in our face we ran three times down it.  Of course previously hidden uphill revealed itself and we took a headwind on the cross country section but the overall effect was positive in the gusty conditions resulting in some fast finishes and good times.

  1. Interesting : I would always have thought the times to be quicker at Bowdon than a reverse Dunham but this does not appear to be the case .
    Nick.

  2. I found the cross-country uphill a struggle, with the wind and terrain and on those 2 x stretches I could see my minute miling getting slower and slower, but the beauty was, u could really go for it on the down hills and make up for what u had lost and more!! Really pleased as this is my quickest yet this year – still a way to go to my 2010 PB at Bowdon, but determined…have to admit kinda liking 5ks now… As they are over and done with quite quick 🙂 Thanks to Martin, Soraya and Jeremy for your cheering and support too !!

  3. Well run Gail! We’ll see you at the parkrun then ;).
Nick, Bowdon has got a lot slower in the last 2 years. The start has moved back and a longer route is taken across the park.
And yes: Thanks to Martin, Soraya and Jeremy for your cheering and support too !

  4. I think in most cases Bowdon was slower due to the fact it was 24 hours after the Boars Head race . That’s my excuse anyway . I did think Dunham would be faster ‘in reverse ‘ as we ran down the hill three times , however my times were to the second exactly the same . Is it just me , but I always think the competetive edge to Summer series races makes a difference , having someone in front to chase .
