With one hundred days to go to the start of the London 2012 Olympics , Macc Harriers had staged an Olympic Evening .
Around the track area , the field events were all marked with the respective world records : The bar for the mens high jump was amazing ! There were the 40 steps marked on the 100 metres track that was needed by Usain Bolt to cover the distance .An Olmpic medallist from the 1990's and a UKA representative were both present.
Youngsters raced 100 metres and there was a mini fell race .
We had been invited to run in a 100 lap relay ( 25 miles ) .Although hampered with late cry offs those that braved the cold and damp evening had an excellent evening .
Ray Eagle started with six very gentle laps by which time we were some laps behind as faster runners from other teams raced off : Ray had VLM legs to protect !
Once the cavalry arrived ( Nicki , DIane and Allan , Diane and Jeremy , and Tony ) , we were a team …And some team . Running single laps and handing over we ground out the laps : Some impressive times from all : Jeremy close to a sub 60 on a couple of occasions .
As the laps ticked by , we clawed our way back and by the close were only a couple of laps / minutes behind the winners from Macc .
Some teams had well over 20 runners so congratulations and thanks to our team : Three big benefits …A fun night , a great rep session and equally importantly a real team bonding exercise : Gritted teeth and plenty of encouragement for each other !!
A very well organised evening from Macclesfield .
