Woodford 10k

Sunday September 11

A new, or some would say revised (Roy apparently finished 8th. in 19??), race in its second year. Well organised, lots of marshals, chip timing (although results currently only give 'gun') . Perhaps expensive at twice the price of Sutton, although significantly cheaper than the Macc Half and a lot cheaper than Wilmslow, perhaps organisers are concluding that races are not price sensitive.

In format not dissimilar to Gawsworth with a mix of road and footpaths and even a footbridge (the one over the A34 near Total Fitness) . In fact you seem to criss-cross the A34 all race but, if that sounds negative it is misleading, it's a pleasant course that we all agreed we enjoyed.

Rob got second and Mike and Tony added further Wilmslow class. There were no category prizes but Tony and Simon won valuable spot prizes; Running Bear socks. Gareth's rehabilitation took another step forward as he prepares for his Chester Marathon. Simon was perhaps a touch below the standard he's achieved in recent races but, with more Wilmslow colleagues to terrorise next Sunday, expect him back at his competitive best. For Roy it was two in two days following the all-time second fastest 60-64 run at Wythenshawe Parkrun course on the Saturday.

  1. Full results are here. I assume they are chip times http://galeforce-events.com/WoodfordOvRes.html
Great course, especially the “small incline” in the woods. My Garmin measured 6.3 miles, which is 10.14km, so times don’t correspond to a true 10k.

  2. … and you can see the entertaining route here http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=662765 Most of us new some of the paths but none of us knew all of them. Simon was planning to weave them into some of the Thursday Summer routes.
Tony liked the look of that hill for reps but wasn’t sure he’d be able to find it again.
