Great Warford 10

Sunday August 14

As has been the norm this year it was another perfect day for running, or at least at the start. Once the sun came out, I found it hot and towards the finish it clouded over and a coolish wind got-up. Didn't inhibit our Ladies who won the team prize; Janine, Nicky and Katy being our counters. The Men had to settle for second to Macclesfield; Rob, Trevor and Mike the counters.

It felt strange coming to a race with no Series points at stake, no looking round to see who else was here, no trying to get a feel for numbers. There were as many Wilmslow runners officiating and supporting as running, plus ex runners Mike & Sally.

I apologise for not giving much insight as to what was happening at the front of the race, but, as you'll appreciate, it is a long way away, hopefully others, spectators or runners, can "comment". Rob picked-up a prize.

Janine is running really well and went further ahead in her challenge with Andy Dodd. Ladies, as has become the norm, came away over-burdened with prizes. See whether the stats agree but I felt Clare, one of the prize-winners, had her best race for some time.

I was just ahead of Simon all the way trying to judge how far behind he was. I pushed hard, hoping every time I passed a familiar face, the gap to "come on Simon" would have stretched to a comfortable distance but 7 miles, and Sue Strang, and it had become uncomfortably closer. It has been a funny week; I spent Monday to Thursday in the acute stoke unit at Macc Hospital. Given the all clear on a stroke but with remnants of the, undiagnosed, symptoms lingering into Saturday, I needed a race to re-assure myself I was OK, but would have settled for something gentler than Simon and I pushing each other to within 5 seconds of the M65 winner.

Soraya and Catriona's approach was a little different different; seemed more like a Sunday morning stroll.

Alan's not running as well as he was earlier in the season, Peter, unusually, was beaten by an over 70, Gareth's completely out of form but not letting it worry him, Leanne was laterne rouge.

This was Rod's longest run since his ill-fated trip to Offa Dyke, with general lack of fitness added to his knee injury this was a successful step to recovery.

Impeccably organised by Malcolm and his team.

Ian
