Northern 6-stage road relays October 2 Wythenshawe Park

Our teams came up against some quality fields as we mixed it with the top clubs across the north. A measure of the quality was that Damien was only 20th on the first leg for the men, yet was only a minute off the leader on the first leg.

The course was essentially the Sale Sizzler route plus a few new twists and turns, most notably around a bowling green! A close finish saw Derby just win the mens race (6x5600m) from Altrincham, while Wilmslow came a creditable 43rd out of 96 finishing teams.

The ladies (whose course was slightly under 5k) found it tough going too but came 38th. Well done to everyone

(Ps. The first number in brackets is our overall position after each leg)

  1. Slight correction to above results – just for the record.
Tom McGaff ran the last leg in place of Bill for the men.
And, for the ladies, Nicky ran 2nd and Sarah ran the last leg. They finished 38th out of the 49 complete teams that finished, there were many more!

  2. We certainly were up against the big boys and girls.
For example Johnny Mellor did the fastest male leg in 16.22 which isn’t bad for such a twisty, crowded course. He followed that up with a 30.00 10K in Liverpool on Sunday – probably not in ideal conditions.
