Bramhall parkrun: Event 87

Santa Run – 19th December 2009

It was -9C as we set out the course signs and it was touch and go whether to cancel the run.  In the end we decided that we could divert around the worst of the ice and grit smaller patches.  With almost everyone in fancy dress at least we had a few layers on.

I set off with the aim of leading the 200 through the diversions and setting some sort of example by running a bit more slowly.  This sort of worked but I still got the urge to keep up with Malcolm who by the end was saving it for his tutu run at the Cracker.  Everyone else took it easy and focussed on the mince pies (thanks to Sainsburys Wilmslow and Nina) and bacon butties to come.

There was yet another emotional farewell to Clare.  She has helped manage almost all 87 Bramhall parkruns without ever running the 5k.  Hopping about on the finish line she encouraged every finisher from sub 15 course record holders to those who struggle to complete the distance.  We'll all miss her great effort and enthusiasm.  Needless to say if anyone fancies getting involved in timing or organising the 5k let me know.
