Wilmslow Ladies 3rd

Wilmslow Men 19th out of 41 Clubs fielded

With a few weeks off between summer series races, decided to sneak in a local 10K to keep the spring in the legs. With it being a non series race, didn’t expect to see any folk out. No sooner had I signed on and gone to prep the family for their inaugural Fun run. Who should I see bounding across the Car park, but Captain Kate, all smiles & sporting some very nice & “new” Nike built for speed trainers! Seems all told so much for a low key lonesome race, 9 Wilmslow runners in attendance – in good company, strength in numbers as always!

What was billed as a 1M Fun run actually turned out to be a 1.5M run, none the less Molly & Daniel Gilbert, ably supported by Mum Elaine & I completed the course all smiles. Molly whilst coming last did remark the lad ahead of her had been carried for some of the distance & called for a steward’s enquiry. None the less very proud of the little people Molly (4) ran / walked the course & Danny (2) cheered from the pram all the way. Over the moon with the event & badges – smiles all round (particularly Cat denoting her bouquet) – once again big thanks.

Conditions almost perfect on the day, a bit of a squeeze,  with almost 1000 lining up. The course was a first for me and I can see why it’s popular & fast, certainly gave the impression of being downhill for 2/3rds distance. None the less the other third did have three rises, which paid their toll on me. Having set out making good time & my splits were on target, last half must have seen me drop my pace, as the end result saw me 30 seconds down on a PB. And this was even with a good 50m sprint with Raph Murray from Macc Harriers to the line.

Finishing prizes were good – with towels embossed with race details etc (perhaps a suggestion for future WRC events), nice touch also, flowers for the girls

Good course I’d recommend, well organised and a very friendly event.
