Bollington Fun Run

Bollington_5k_2 THANKYOU TO EVERYONE…

…But special thanks to Ian Ashcroft, Tony Hulme and Ian Gilliver for making the effort to turn up to the Bollington fun run today (Sunday 20th April) – it was very much appreciated. And I’d also like to thank Andy Watts for his call and offering to help marshal.

As the picture tells, it was neck-and-neck between Tony and the girl in the pink mac, but in the end his experience told.

Probably not the most organised race but it was ‘a local run for all the family’ with the main emphasis on having fun and raising money for charity. This we indeed did with entry fees and money for bacon sandwiches we raised over £500! The turnout was amazing too, much better than previous years I am told (over 100 entrants!) Roary the lion certainly kept the children entertained, we also had Steve Hanley from Sale Sharks and the local radio station present so overall I think everyone enjoyed it. There was a minor accident before the race started which delayed things a little but everything worked out in the end.

Tony won but unfortunately no-one gave him his prize – so Tony I’ve got a bottle of wine for you. (Probably the easiest race you have ever ran and WON but your support was appreciated today!)

Also, I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me for the London Marathon – I’ve raised over £2,300 for Mind (inc. Fun run). I had my own place but still chose to do it for charity and to raise awareness of how running can help with anxiety, depression and other mental health problems. Look out for another article in the Macclesfield Express this week.

And the last thanks is to all members of Wilmslow Running Club – you truly are a great group of people to run with and the support and praise we show each other at races and on training is just amazing. We may not win all of the time but we are ‘simply the best!’

This sounds like a speech for the oscars but I’m not crying and I have no trophy – all that it leaves now for me to do is to get my coat – so thanks for listening (or reading in this case)! I’m really going now honest – so see you on Tuesday.

Amanda
