You may already be aware that the Running Club is sponsoring the match on 23rd December, when Sale are the visitors. That’s Sale Amateurs, which is the club that was reformed at Heywood Road after the professional side moved out to Edgeley Park. A big holiday crowd (big by our standards anyway) from both Sale and Wilmslow are expected, there’ll be a goodly number sitting down for a hot pot and claret lunch beforehand, hopefully with a good number of runners amongst them. I don’t know how many matches the running club has sponsored over the years but it certainly goes back to at least 2004, when Maurice presented mementos commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first four minute mile to the lunchers. All part of the strengthening relationship between runners and rugby players! You may – or may not – want to comment on some of this when you’re doing your piece.
Finally, I hope you got the last programme from Keith. We got up to 40 pages for the first time with at least half of it being copy, comment, reports, humour and photos from about 9 or 10 contributors. All good stuff!
