Elspeth writes… March has been a month of peaks and troughs for park-running. The first Saturday of March proved popular at most courses and Sat 11th March saw a bumper outing at Wilmslow to celebrate their 100th parkrun. As could be predicted the Water’s Wilmslow Half Marathon affected the 18th with very low numbers at most local park runs, only Wilmslow was the exception.
A total of 54 members have now joined the parkrun competition with 32 runners completing at least one course and 14 runners with two courses under their belt. The qualifying courses are as follows: Congleton, Bramhall, Wythenshawe, Wilmslow, Burnage, South Manchester, Stretford and Lyme Park
We have four people who have completed three courses and must now run Lyme Park to qualify for points on the main table, they are Carolyn Hirons, Mark Crossland, Alan Turner and Andrew Given.
Unfortunately, no-one has joined our only qualifier so far (Tony Hulme) as although three members have run four courses they have not yet completed the compulsory course at Lyme Park, so Chris Cannon, John Porteous and Catherine Mellor all need to head to Lyme Park for qualification.
Congratulations this month go to Rob Wilson, who not only has returned from injury to run at both Wilmslow and Congleton this month but has also celebrated his 50th Parkrun. Consolidating from his training and PB at Wilmslow Half, Pete Stock has run two of his fastest parkruns this month and Daniel Blundred gained a PB at Wilmslow in an impressive time of 18.13.
Looking into April, hopefully brighter weather and the chance of qualification will encourage more of you to Lyme Park Parkrun, and let’s see if anyone turns up at Wythenshawe as we had no runners at this course during March.
Happy April Parkrunning!
