Chris Cannon writes… I had just opened my umpteenth bottle of beer on Saturday evening, drowning my sorrows, City had just been robbed at Anfield and was I the only saddo with nowhere to go on New Year’s Eve when a text arrived.
Rich. Are you in?
Me. Yes, I’ve nowhere to go. Why?
Rich. Parkrun double tomorrow.
Gutted, I thought it was going to be an invite to wild party.
Me. Lyme parkrun isn’t on.
Rich. It is.
Me. Are you sure?
Rich. I’ve checked.
I finished my bottle of beer off and opened another while I pondered the offer. It was a bottle of chilled Cobra and to brighten up my evening I even cut a slice of lime and wedged it in the top.
Rich. Jonesy is in.
Me. Why not? What time are we leaving?
Rich. 7.55.
Such is life.
Lyme Parkrun 9.00 AM. Marple Parkrun 10.30 AM.
Alan McCormick 21.02
Graham Screawn 22.12 21.20
James McDonald 22.34 21.50
Sharon Johnstone 22.40
Paul Garnett 23.33
Ian Smallwood 24.20 24.35
Tony Hulme 26.45 24.57
Sharon Jones 28.45 26.23
Chris Cannon 28.46 26.20
Richard Hirons 28.48 26.24
Ian and Graham also ran the 6 mile between the two parkruns and we last saw Ian running back to either Lyme Park or home.
We did offer a lift.
What better way to start a year.
Chris
So, the hilly Lyme Park 5k run costs 7/8-minute milers about 2.5 minutes compared with a more normal Parkrun. At one second loss per metre, that suggests it has up to 150m of ascent. HNY to all.
