Preston 10
Tony obviously knew something when he decided to pull this race from the Summer Series calendar. Uninspiring wouldn’t do justice to this tedious two-lap slog, half of which was spent simply running beside the A59 dual carriageway at Hutton while the other half basically went around a housing estate – surely a more interesting route could have been thought up. However Preston folk clearly like it because nearly 500 souls turned out for the pleasure.
Maybe my negativity also came from the lack of signage to the race – so much so that with family in tow a leisurely drive turned into a last minute scramble to find the car park (over a mile from the start) and then to actually find the start (not as easy as one would presume!). With barely a minute to catch my breath we were off but on a very chilly morning my muscles hadn’t warmed up properly and it took me a while to get going. That, plus inaccurate mile markers and the lack of Wilmslow vests to chase made for a tough race to gauge. Still, just about came out with a PB. However, races like this certainly make you realise how you take for granted the scenery at our own half and races like Langley and 4 Villages.
Dashing off afterwards to a family function at the in-laws meant I didn’t have time to catch up with the other brave Wilmslow souls who turned out but I think we all posted good times on what, when all is said and done, is quite a fast course. Times have already been posted further below on the site but here is the link to the results. If you want a 10 mile PB next year do it, otherwise don’t bother.
