Saturday 8th March.
Nine of us made the trip to Grindleford on Saturday, despite dire weather warnings, and the early start- a bit of a shock for Saturday. All holding our ‘dibbers’ (fell racing style), the field set off through the first few stiles and on to the rest of the 21 miles. The course is very varied, muddy hills, flat converted railway line, small road sections, and at the top of Froggat Edge a rocky environment quite similar to the Roaches. Then a steep rooty descent back to the finish. 21 miles is never going to be easy, but this is a tough course! Every year I remember how tough it is (normally on the ascent of Froggat).
Congratulations therefore are especially due to Jim Pendrill, coming 6th overall, and also Mike who beat 3 hours. Ian came in at 3:00:07 – should have run faster, Ian, you could have saved those few seconds! The rain held off and we even saw brief snatches of sun. Full results and splits are on the Grindleford site.
