The new XC season started with overcast skies , some drizzle but warm and humid conditions.
Heaton Park is a fast and runnable course unlike some once the winter weather has set in .

Bang on 1.50 , the gun went and the ladies were away on their two lap and four mile undulating course .
Captain Kate saw the ladies home followed by Sue Hoole , great to see Sue back out .Not sure quite of the next positions but great back up from Penny , Carla , Sally Price , Amanda , Steph , Julie , Christina and Nina . Ladies we also appreciated your support . Thank you .
While the ladies were finishing , the men were away at 2.30. Six miles and three laps.
Given that "yours truly" was some way down the field , I cant be sure of the mens order but in the manner of …….Malcolm pipped Rob by a half yard to be first home .Then Jim and Tom . XC Debutant Steve Smith had a cracking race and scored for the team followed by Mike Cooper , Ray and Ian Smallwood …………..Gareth and then myself followed ……………
Peter Stock was another who made his Wilmslow XC debut and we hope to see at future races .
George ran on a trip from France , and a welcome addition with Trevor as reliable as ever .
Sadly James Wheeler and Ian Ashcroft had to withdraw during the race due to injury , although I understand that Ian prefers to run in races with women included !!
I do hope that I have missed no one .

I’m not sure that Nick’s comment does me justice. As that flatterer Tony once said to me, ‘if you were a lady you’d be a valuable member of the club’. I knew what he meant but someone else might have put it differently. I normally ‘compete’ in the girly section of the race, my shoes, still stiff with last year’s Heaton Park mud, were shaffing me, I’d done two laps like the girls, though somewhat slower than them, there was no Roy, Rod or Simon on hand to gloat so I took the noble course of action and gave up.
