More history was made at Bramhall parkrun this week thanks to a magnificent run by Stacey Ward who not only broke the women’s course record, but also managed to outrun all the men and win the race outright!
Stacey’s first appearance in the park exactly a year ago yielded a course record and an impressive third place overall. She was back in April to break it again and only missed top spot by one second. Needless to say, our expectations were high when we saw her back on the start line and she sure didn’t disappoint us!
The race was as exciting as any that we have had in the park, with 24-year old Stacey having a close battle with Rob and 18-year old debutant Stuart Price. The lead changed hands several times before Stacey eventually managed to sprint across the line first in a sizzling 16.46, just three seconds clear of Rob, with Stuart hanging on well to take third.
Wilmslow male pride was restored somewhat by a fine run from Ian Smallwood giving him 12th place in a new course PB. He then ran Boggart Hole before hopefully getting a double helping at the Xmas Party.
As well as knocking 8 seconds of her existing record, Stacey’s time gave her the highest age-graded performance of the day and moved her up to second on the all time list, a fraction behind Tom’s record-breaking run from last week. To put her fine run into context, only a small handful of women at other parkruns have quicker than Stacey, but all on the much flatter courses at Bushy, Brighton, and
