Form Scores

The purpose of the Form Scores (click the link at the top of this page) is to enable you, by scanning across the ten most recent races (even though these races will have been over differing distances and differing terrains and often run in differing weather conditions) to objectively monitor how well your running is progressing.

For me it is the main tool in deciding whether I am on the right training regime or whether I need to change it. There have been a number of comments posted about the form scores, for some it would seem this trend of their performances is useful, for others unhelpful. I will be doing the calculations for my own purpose* but will be guided as to whether to continue posting the scores on the website.

 

Those who ran significantly better at the Alexandra Park than they have in recent races were :-
Martin Wheeldon, Jeremy Bygrave, Julie Lucas, Chris Cannon, Diane Bygrave, Peter Watson and Steve Russell.

Others who improved at Alexandra Park on their average performance in recent races were:- Elspeth Gibson, James Eyre, Clare Hawkes, Geoff Gilbert, Sharon Jones, Gail Hill, Alan Turner and Simon
Fenton.

* As well as the recent scores giving a guide as to how well your training is going, looking at your scores over, say, a year identifies which distances/terrains are your strengths and which your weaknesses. You may feel you already know this but, when I first started doing the exercise for myself, the conclusion was not quite as I had expected.

  1. Personally: I do find the Form Scores both useful and interesting and would vote for continuing to provide the stats though it’s a chore for Ian to compile. There is a satisfaction factor if you find you are doing relatively better in the long term and a nosiness factor of seeing how everyone else is doing. Alternatively a ‘must do better next time’ can give you the kick needed. I love numbers I do.

  2. I agree Clare, I find all the stats interesting, if not always very encouraging, depending on how badly I am performing!
    Very grateful for the information that Ian and others provide.
