Our ladies travelled to Birmingham yesterday to race against the best of England in the 4 stage road relay championships…To get there three regional events are held : Northern, Midland and Southern Championships. You need to qualify .
Birmingham was overcast and damp but the rain held off for most of the race.
Running orders are different in longer distance relays as opposed to track relays : By the time the last leg went yesterday the ladies had run close to 9 miles . Legs were just under 3 miles. Often too much to make up ground when you run the last leg…So your best runner tends to goes out first. Other theories then about the remaining legs…Sometimes experience on the later legs with good pace judgement as there is no one alongside you if the field has spread out. Leg two can be tough…Hang on to your position !
When reading the results, its also worth realising that a host of International runners turn out for their clubs at the sharp end of the race .
A great effort by all of our team to finish 30th out of 78 teams that started leg one…65 finished overall.
Support was provided by Allan, and "Team Green"…Cakes also made by Al ! 🙂
Di : 15.26
Katy Green : 17.23
Janine : 17.36
Sharon Johnstone : 16.19
Congratulations.
