The third round of the five race series of the ever popular (and growing) Manchester Area Cross Country League took place yesterday @ Boggart Hole Clough.
Numbers competing were slightly down on the previous two meetings for the men, but were much higher than in previous seasons for a December event, and at a course that some stay away from as described by Tony on Tuesday. For me, its a good cross county course…one for the purists.
For the ladies a great turnout of close to 200…For the men 300.
Bang on 1.40pm, David Brown the official starter raised his pistol, and on the bang, the ladies roared into action.
The ladies were led home by "Captain Di" in 6th place.
The team finished 9th and 2nd in the Vets.
There was some confusion in the recording of the number for Di Byegrave…Shown in the results as Claire McCluskey…I have sorted this.
Please remember that you wear the same number for each race; Keep it safe and bring to each event !
If for any reason, there is a perceived mistake, please approach me as opposed to Brenda.
Having cheered the ladies around the course, the men were away bang on 2.30. While a little down on the earlier two meetings, 300 is a very good turnout.
Damian was first home in 11th, and the team packed well to finish 4th and 2nd in the Vets.
Well done to Will Booth, on making his debut.
Trevor will be pleased to see that there was in fact a runner behind him, contrary to his own thinking…299th Trevor !!
The teams were supported by Don & Tony.
With good turnouts, plenty of training and a big push, we still have a chance of both team and individual medals. The awards will be presented after the last race in the Courtyard Cafe at Wythenshawe Park… Saturday 14th February. I have reserved 25 tickets for Wilmslow.

See you Tuesday,
Nick.
Well done to all who raced! Sorry I couldn’t make it.
Clear skies and brilliant full moon the previous night always seems to result in full cells and I couldn’t get away from work in time to compete.
What is different this season is that there are many good senior men’s and ladies’ teams that finish high up the team order, but, in fact, they are in Division 2. Thus, altho our Senior Ladies came 9th on the day, they score in Division 1 as 6th. The same effect benefited our Senior Men at Sherdley Park: 6th on the day was 4th in Division 1.
Altho our chance of repeating three firsts and a third for the final MACCL team prizes looks more bleak this time, it is not as bleak as the positions in each race might indicate. We need to maximise turnout at the next two events to get podium positions.
